Research and treatment under one roof
The "Hopp Children's Cancer Center Heidelberg" (KiTZ) is a joint facility of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD) and Heidelberg University (Uni HD). It is both a therapy and research center for oncological and hematological diseases in childhood and adolescence. The aim is to scientifically investigate the biology of childhood cancer and severe blood diseases and to closely link promising research approaches with comprehensive patient care - from diagnosis to treatment and aftercare.
Our patients receive comprehensive care at KiTZ - from diagnosis to treatment and aftercare. Children with cancer, especially those for whom no established treatment options are available, are given an individualized therapy plan, which experts from various disciplines draw up together in tumor conferences. Many young patients can participate in clinical trials and thus, gain access to new treatment options.
The Department of Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology at Heidelberg University Hospital and the KiTZ received the "Certified Pediatric Oncology Center" award from the German Cancer Society (DKG). This proves that the clinic meets the high quality requirements for pediatric oncology centers in accordance with the specifications of the German Cancer Society.
