Teamwork for our young patients
Our experienced physicians at the Clinic for Pediatrics III (headed by Prof. Dr. Andreas Kulozik) ensure that the "kids at KiTZ" are cared for according to the latest medical standards.
Well cared for all around!
Our outpatient team and the nursing staff of the pediatric oncology department are also there for the children and their families and do their utmost to ensure their well-being. The psycho-social team ensures that the children and their families are well cared for far beyond the medical therapy and supports the affected families in coping with the cancer and its consequences. In the Kinderplanet care facility, experienced educators take care of the patients' siblings. The hospital school teaches school-age patients in cooperation with their home schools.
Our physicians of tomorrow
At KiTZ, medical students from Heidelberg University Hospital are trained to become the physicians of tomorrow. This training naturally includes working with sick children—and this can only be learned with the help of our patients and their parents. For this reason, families may be asked to participate in student training sessions, for example, by providing medical history or practicing physical examinations. Naturally, the students, like everyone else on the treatment team, are bound by confidentiality. If a child is not well enough to participate in the training session, the team at KiTZ will of course take this into consideration.
Progress begins with research
Another important pillar of the KiTZ is science: more than 160 researchers are working to better understand the molecular mechanisms of cancer development in children. From the scientific findings, they derive new diagnostic procedures and therapeutic approaches.
