Diagnostics

Whenever possible, we strive to offer novel therapy options for pediatric cancer patients for whom standard procedures have failed. Hence, our researchers of the preclinical program at KiTZ (head: Prof. Stefan Pfister) examine the tumor tissue of those patients to systematically look for new druggable targets. A central element of these examinations are molecular diagnostics.

Do you have questions about our clinical trials?

Please contact the Clinical Trial Unit.

At KiTZ, children and adolescents with cancer and severe blood disorders have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials, providing them access to the latest diagnostic and treatment procedures. While clinical trials conducted by pharmaceutical companies and other hospitals are facilitated through the Clinical Trial Unit, our Trial Development Group and Study Management Group also develop and lead our own experimental Phase I/II clinical trials. With this individualized approach, the translational KiTZ program assesses novel treatment approaches, positioning our research unit in a pioneering role in Germany.

How to get to KiTZ

To more efficiently translate new treatment options, the German Cancer Research Center, the University Hospital Heidelberg and the Heidelberg University are aiming at combining the children's cancer research in a new building situated close to the University Children’s Hospital. Until the completion of the new building, KiTZ patients are treated in the Clinic for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology at the Center for Child and Adolescent Medicine headed by Prof. Andreas Kulozik.
