KiTZ Director Stefan Pfister has made it to the top again in 2023: he is once again among the top one percent of the world's most cited researchers in their respective fields. Stefan Pfister has been part of the prestigious selection in previous years and in 2023, is included once more as a specialist in the molecular genetics of childhood brain tumors.
The "Web of Science Group" of the US company Clarivate publishes an annual ranking of the world's most cited scientists in 20 different subject areas, covering all natural sciences, medicine, economics and social sciences, as well as in the "Cross Fields" category. In 2023, 7125 researchers worldwide are among the top one percent of the most cited experts in their respective fields. This year, eleven scientists from German institutions are represented among the 336 ranked scientists who conduct research at the DKFZ - as heads of scientific departments or of bridging units with university medicine.
For the current list, Clarivate took into account the authors of all scientific publications that appeared between 2012 and 2022 and that were among the one percent of the most cited specialist articles at the end of 2022 ("highly cited papers"). Depending on the size of the subject area, a different number of citations is required to be among the top one percent. Most of the ranked researchers come from US institutions (37.5%), followed by China (17.9%), the UK (8.1%) and Germany (4.7%).
