Visiting Regulations and Togetherness

on the K3 oncology ward

The aim of the visiting regulations is to protect all our patients from infectious diseases. These can become a danger during tumor treatment due to our patients' weakened immune system. During inpatient treatment, visits are an important and welcome change in order to "endure" the time in hospital. Visiting your child is possible within the following framework:

  • A maximum of 2 associated persons can be present at the same time. These are, for example, both parents or a parent and grandparent or a parent and a sibling. This includes the parent who is the accompanying person for the child in treatment!

  • Siblings who are younger than 12 years of age are generally not allowed to enter the ward.

  • Siblings who are older than 12 years are allowed to visit, but the following two criteria must be met:

    • (1) The brother or sister is healthy in the eyes of their parents, has no infectious diseases and there has been no recent contact with sick classmates. In particular, he or she has no fever, cough, diarrhea or is vomiting.

    • (2) Siblings must be fully vaccinated, i.e. twice, against mumps, measles, rubella, chickenpox (varicella) or have successfully overcome these infections.

Sometimes there are good reasons and occasions for larger “family gatherings”, with more relatives or even younger siblings. If the patient is well enough, we can pause the infusion and make it possible to meet outside the clinic. Please speak to the nursing team, flexible individual solutions can often be found, especially at weekends.
